Breaking into a male-dominated career can be a challenge in and of itself – clearing a path for women to follow you in that career is where true leaders shine. We are proud to say that Capano Management’s very own Maria Arena is one of those beacons of leadership. Maria has spent decades of her career in construction and joined LC Construction in March of 2020 as Assistant Project Manager. This past September, Maria had the distinction to be installed as Vice President of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC), Wilmington Delaware Chapter.
When asked about her time at Capano Management\LC Construction, Maria said “LC Construction is an AMAZING company to work for and with, and I have never received as much support from colleagues and co-workers – both during and after working hours – for my efforts in construction and construction-related activities. I am very, very appreciative of this.”
As an industry, construction is currently comprised of only ~10% women, an imbalance that NAWIC has been engaged in changing since 1953. Maria went on to say that “NAWIC is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about our construction industry, network with other women construction professionals, learn, develop confidence and mentor. My passion is mentoring young people just getting into construction – I had a wonderful mentor when I graduated college, and he instilled in me how rewarding it is to be a mentor and helping young people starting out in a challenging industry.”
We are indeed excited to watch Maria continue to inspire women from all across Delaware (and beyond!) to a fulfilling and engaging career in construction.
