With funds comprised from our annual golf tournament, its participants, sponsors and the foundation itself- The Louis Capano Foundation is proud to announce a donation of $300,000 to the WRK/Reach Riverside Group.
The WRK Group, a collective of three nonprofit organizations that includes The Warehouse, REACH Riverside and Kingswood Community Center working together to revitalize the Riverside and northeast Wilmington neighborhoods, recently received a $300,000 donation from the Louis Capano Family Foundation (LCFF).
The money was raised as part of the 2021 Louis Capano Family Foundation Golf Tournament, held Sept. 20 at DuPont Country Club in Wilmington, of which The WRK Group was this year’s beneficiary. Key sponsors of the event included M&T Bank, US Realty Capital and Graham Capital Management. NFL Hall of Famer Brian Dawkins and Wilmington Mayor Michael Purzycki were the keynote speakers for the dinner that followed the tournament.
The WRK Group is comprised of three organizations and more than 130 employees who share a collective mission to empower the community to reach its full potential by eliminating the barriers of structural racism and revolutionizing teen engagement. REACH Riverside, overseeing a $250 million holistic revitalization, also serves as the managing partner for Kingswood Community Center, a pillar of the northeast Wilmington neighborhood for 75 years, and The Warehouse, an educational and recreational oasis for teens.
Logan Herring Sr., CEO of The WRK Group, said the contribution will help the organization continue its important work assisting and empowering the residents of Wilmington’s most underserved neighborhoods.
“Layered on top of decades of systemic oppression and disinvestment, the Riverside neighborhood, which leads the entire city of Wilmington with 70% of its children living in poverty, has been hit unimaginably hard during the pandemic and most recently as a result of Hurricane Ida,” he said in a statement. “However, the community continues to remain optimistic because we have support from organizations like the Louis Capano Family Foundation. We look forward to continuing this partnership with LCFF as we work together toward the vision of a thriving Riverside community for all.”
Louis Capano III and Louis Capano Jr. established LCFF as a nonprofit private foundation in 2006 to raise essential funding and awareness for the nonprofits of Delaware with a specific focus on children and families in need. Since its inception, the LCFF Golf Tournament has donated more than $1 million to local charities. In addition, the LCFF together with other Capano entities has to date given more than $6 million to local nonprofits through donations, sponsorships, partnerships and grants.
The goals of The WRK Group match the mission of LCFF to give back to the state of Delaware by aligning with causes dedicated to improving the lives of children and families facing the hardships of sickness and poverty, Louis Capano III said.
“The progress that Logan and his team have made to lift up the young people of Wilmington is vital not just to the neighborhoods the organization serves, but to all residents of Wilmington and New Castle County by creating effective pathways out of poverty for low-income residents,” Capano said in a statement. “We are committed and look forward to our foundation’s partnership with WRK and Reach Riverside extending beyond this donation to continue to support the inspiring and essential change that Logan is creating within our communities.”
