New Castle County has approved Capano Residential’s redevelopment project to build apartments, single-family homes and townhouses behind the Capano-owned Concord Square shopping center, on grounds of the vacant Brandywine Country Club.
Capano Residential and LC Construction/LC Management plan to develop 300 apartments, 41 single-family homes, and 24 townhouses on the newly zoned property. The community will be divided by housing type, with apartments accessible by passing through the shops at Concord Square Shopping Center, while the single-family homes and townhouses can be entered from Shipley Road. Walkways and bike paths will wrap through the redeveloped land, connecting the communities.
As part of Capano Residential’s mission to give back to the Delaware community, CEO Louis Capano III has also affirmed that 44 acres of the land will be donated to the Brandywine School District, where it will be divided between an open community space, as well as a new education center. Plans project the education center will be able to serve up to 500 young students and children with special needs from all across Wilmington.
